Holliday moved to Canada from England as a mining engineer before the war. When war was declared in September of 1914 he enlisted as a sapper in the Canadian Engineers. In December, 1915 he was promoted to to 2nd Lieutenant and transferred to the RFC the following month as an observer in 4 Sqn. In August 1916 he went for pilot training and returned to 48 Sqn after training. Between April and July he and his observer downed 17 enemy aircraft. He toured the U.S. in 1920 with a group of RAF aces, before returning to Canada, by way of Sweden in 1923. He saw further service in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War as CO of the No. 10 Repair Depot at Calgary, Alberta. He retired as a Group Captain in 1945. From 1947 until his death in 1960, he served as president of Swedish Electric in Canada.
