RAF Ferry Command, Dorval, Quebec. Boston IIIa aircraft BZ 294 was en-route from Dorval, Quebec to the United Kingdom when it encountered a severe storm during the landing approach to Gander. The aircraft crashed in very rough country near Benton, Newfoundland

Navigator Pilot Officer KH Wells (RCAF) was killed in the crash

Pilot Flight Lieutenant DGC Chown (RCAF) and Wireless Operator FS F Coates (RCAF), although severely injured, survived the crash but Flight Lieutenant Chown (internal injuries and two broken legs) succumbed to his injuries and died the next day,1942-12-09
