403 Wolf Squadron (Stalk And Strike) RAF Manston. Pilot Officer Norman Monchier (RCAF), flying Spitfire Vb aircraft AR 334 and Pilot Officer John Edwin Gardiner (RCAF) flying Spitfire Vb AR 439 were covering the beach landings at Dieppe, France when their two aircraft collided in mid-air. They were both killed when both aircraft crashed five miles south-east of Dieppe at St Aubin-le-Cauf, France
