412 Falcon Squadron (Promtus ad vindictum) RAF Digby. Pilot Officer W R Hughes (RCAF) was killed when his Spitfire IIa aircraft P 8586 was in a mid-air collision with 44 Squadron RAF Hampton I aircraft. The Hampton crashed near RAF Waddington, while the Spitfire crashed into the nearby North Sea near Waddington, Lincolnshire, England. The three aircrew members aboard the Hampton were also killed in addition to Pilot Officer Hughes in this flying accident
