10 Squadron (Rem Acu Tangere) RAF Melbourne. Halifax B MkII aircraft BB 324 ZA-X was shot down night fighter pilot Oberfeldwebel Bruno Eikmeier of the 2/NJG 1, flying a Bf 110 G-4, during an against targets in Mulhelm, Germany. The Halifax crashed into the North Sea off the Dutch coast, 10 km west of Zandvoort, Noord-Holland, Netherlands with the loss of the entire crew

Flight Sergeant Timothy Leo MacAskill (RCAF), Flight Sergeant James Franklin Karl Crowe (RCAF), Sergeant John Conway (RAFVR), Sergeant Robert Mitchel Pinkerton (RAF), Sergeant Frank Holmes (RAFVR), Sergeant Frederick Thomas Nuttall (RAFVR) and Sergeant William Waring (RAF) were all killed in action

Because the bomber had crashed at sea, some of the crew remains were not recovered and have no known grave. Those crew members are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. The bodies of four crew members, Flight Sergeant Crowe, Sergeant Holmes, Sergeant Nuttall and Sergeant Conway washed ashore weeks after the crash and were buried in cemeteries in the Netherlands
