35 Halifaxes from 405, 408, and 419 Squadrons were ordered on an attack at Stuttgart. The crews were over the target between 12,000 and 18,000 feet, releasing 195,000 lbs of high explosives. According to reports, this attack was not successful. Richard Koval (6bombergroup.ca)
405 City of Vancouver Squadron (Ducimus) RAF Topcliffe, Halifax II BB 250 LQ-E was shot down by night fighter pilot Oberleutnant Heinz-Wilhelm Kornacker of Stab III/NJG4 over France while homeward-bound from Stuttgart, Germany. The Halifax was abandoned and crashed at Mondepuis, France
Sergeant Emanuel George Lacina (RCAF) and Flight Sergeant Robert Gray MacDonald (RCAF) were both killed in action
Flight Sergeant Ronald Frank Kennett (RCAF) survived and was captured to become a Prisoner of War
Flight Sergeant Elmer Leigh Bulman MiD (RCAF), Flight Sergeant Gordon Lewis Spencer MiD (RCAF), Pilot Officer Bordon Carrick Dennison DFC (RCAF), Squadron Leader Lloyd Emerson Logan DFC CDGF (RCAF) and Flight Sergeant Harold Jack Jennings DFC MiD (RCAF) all survived and avoided capture as EVADERS, all returning to the UK
