Halifax B MkII aircraft BB 236 EY-B was coned by the search lights of Reserve Flakscheinewerfer Abteilung 609 (Werfer 15) and hit by the guns of Leichte Marine Flakzug Murwik, 1-4/Reserve Flak Abteilung 306 and 1-3/Reserve Flak Abteilung 755. The Halifax crashed at Am Friedenshugel, Flensburg, Germany with the loss of the entire crew
Flying Officer John Hammond Carrick (RCAF), Flying Officer Gordon Menhennick Gillies (RCAF), Sergeant Norman Rex Jones (RAAF), Sergeant Ernest Henry Tytherleigh (RAFVR) were all killed in action. Initially buried in a cemetery near the crash site. They were later exhumed and reburied in the Kiel War Cemetery, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
Sergeant Edwin Walter Farr (RAFVR), Sergeant George Erenest Swift (RAFVR) and Sergeant Joseph Cunningham (RAFVR) survived the crash and were taken as Prisoners of War
