405 Vancouver Squadron (Ducimus) RAF Topcliffe. Halifax B Mk II aircraft BB 216 LQ-D had a Port outer engine fire as the aircraft crossed the east coast, leading to structural failure of the wing, outbound for an operation against targets in Saarbrucken, Germany. The aircraft was abandoned before it crashed near Skegness, Lincolnshire with the loss of four aircrew
