401 City of Westmount Squadron RCAF (Mors cellerima hostibus) RAF Lympne. Warrant Officer 1st Class Leo Joseph Armstrong,(RCAF)(USA), flying Spitfire IX aircraft BS 107 YO-C on a fighter sweep over Dieppe, France as part of Operation Jubilee was shot down by a German Focke-Wulf 190. Warrant Officer Armstrong baled from his stricken aircraft and landed in the English Channel. Unfortunately, he was captured to become a Prisoner of War. Sent to Stalag 344, Armstrong was liberated and returned safely to the UK 1945-05-10
